Antonella Catini
Antonella Catini was born in Pisa, Italy, and is a painter currently living and working in Rome. She graduated with a degree in architecture, and her artistic practice reflects a deep integration of formal and spatial research with the study of abstract and informal painting. Her works convey a strong sense of chance and asymmetry, deliberately abandoning rational structures in favor of a more instinctive and intuitive creative process. Drawn to the abstract dimension, Catini continuously explores its expressive possibilities. For her, painting serves as a vital medium for articulating inner experiences—through layers of color and material, she constructs forms and symbols. The processes of overlapping and fragmentation leave traces and imprints, suggesting psychological pathways and emotional depth, often becoming metaphors for contemporary existence. In many of her works, spatial depth is minimal, with color itself becoming a powerful vehicle for sensory engagement.
Catini’s recent work explores urban landscapes, the perception of movement, and evolving notions of the self. She has also conducted extensive experiments in digital art and sculpture. Since 2000, she has devoted herself almost entirely to artistic creation. Over the years, she has held numerous solo exhibitions in major galleries and institutions across Italy and internationally, and her work has been featured in several published catalogs. In 2014, she presented a solo exhibition at the Ara Pacis Museum in Rome and published the Cantieri catalog, curated by Philippe Daverio in collaboration with the prestigious Italian publisher Skira.
